IBM Forum 2008 in Wellington: a Twitter timeline

I spent today at the IBM Forum 2008. A good event overall, with a refreshing departure from last year's focus on Second Life.

The keynote with Ray Avery, CEO Medicine Mondiale was really interesting and showed how individual actions can make a difference.

The big focus this year was of course in virtualisation and cloud computing. I managed to attend a few sessions, meeting some people around the marketplace and had a good time overall.

Here are the Tweets I sent from this event:

This is an interesting question and the Microsoft Australia team may just have the answer - which may not be exactly the New Zealand but we can start with these numbers.

Some other interesting stats tells us that 44% use Facebook, ... (more in the full post)

This article on Counter Notions is a facinating read on why Apple doesn't do concept products and just makes, um, real ones.

Why show off products that you can't/won't make other than to try and make you competitors think you've got the next big thing, right round the corner. Of course the corner never comes. It's just the same thing as last year, with a slightly better camera on it, or slightly faster CPU......

Knowledge Navigator

Interestingly the last concept product Apple demo'd in 1987 (pre Jobs) was the awesome Knowledge Navigator. It has it all, although the AI is pretty smart, it isn't smart enough to loose the dickiebow. 20 years later, this technology still isn't available, although bits and pieces are there on various things, overall it's just a designers wet dream.

This is not really a Microsoft Tech Ed New Zealand event, but it's an interesting event for local developers - and around the same time.

I am talking about the Internet Explorer 8 Roadshow, announced by Nick in our forums:

Yay - my iPod is back! (soon)

Exactly a week when I dropped off my iPod touch for repairs, Noel Leeming has left a message on my mobile saying that they have it now ready for pickup.

(Took a while though - first time setting up and using Voicemail on my mobile Laughing)

Come back later (in about an hour) to see how it went.
