Microsoft Mobile Notebook Initiative Solutions
A couple of days ago I received a press release from one of the companies exhibiting at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona... In the middle of the text there was this:

"Including Microsoft's new mobile notebook initiative solutions."

Believe me or not, I haven no idea what they are talking about - and I haven't got a reply through my channels.

So exactly what is this new thing?

Any ideas?

Windows Vista SP1 RC2 = RTM bits
If you are planning the deployment of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 in your organisation or at home, here is a tip I got from a conference call with the Windows Vista team in Redmond: the last Windows Vista SP1 RC2 (build 1800) released to beta testers contains the same bits as the Windows Vista SP1 RTM announced a couple of days ago.

It means that for all of you out there planning compatibility tests, migration, etc you can safely use the RC2 as a base platform for testing.

Joikuspot - turn your Nokia S60 device into a WiFi Access Point

While surfing the interw3b this morning I came across this very cool new Symbian S60 application. Once installed it allows your phone to act as a WiFi hotspot sharing it's GPRS/3G data connection via WiFi.

Now you might think this is nothing special but if you have an iPod Touch, PDA or laptop that has WiFi built it it allows you to connect to the internet when you're not within range of a WiFi network. WiFi is also significantly faster than Bluetooth for data transfers so if you're somebody who connects their laptop to their phone via Bluetooth there could be significant speed increases moving to WiFi.

This software is only very new and currently lacks any security which means your WiFi connection is wide open for anybody to leach but certainly shows a lot of potential!
